The Gift of Independence – Michael

El regalo de la independencia

Triumph met Michael at Rancho Los Amigos Hospital in October 2019 after he sustained a gunshot wound. He had just gotten off from work, and the car he and his friends were in was randomly shot at; Michael was the only person hit. The bullet entered thru his shoulder, broke his collar bone, hit his lungs and ribs and left him with a T6 complete spinal cord injury. When we met him at Rancho Los Amigos, we gave him a Care Basket and peer mentors were able to answer his questions.

Before being discharged from the hospital, he reached out to us for a loaner wheelchair. He was being given a heavy hospital style one, and knew he would struggle with access at home and shoulder strain pushing around.

Michael was discharged from the hospital on November 8th, the day before our Adaptive Sports Festival in Pasadena. Michael and his family woke up early the next day and came out to our Sports Festival. We were able to supply him with a loaner wheelchair and he was able to try out various adaptive sports!

All of our outreach, loaner wheelchair program and adaptive recreational events are only possible because of the generosity of people like you.

With your support you can ensure we can continue being there for people like Michael.
