Meet Waley: A Story of Triumph and Independence<\/strong><\/p>\n

Waley\u2019s journey began at just five years old when he was diagnosed with scoliosis, a condition that significantly impacted his life. By the time he turned 16, the curvature of his spine worsened, severely limiting his mobility. To regain movement, Waley underwent a high-risk surgery, but complications from the procedure left him paralyzed, transforming his life in unexpected ways.<\/p>\n

Finding Hope and Strength<\/strong><\/p>\n

Initially, Waley struggled with depression and a loss of motivation, but with the support of family, friends, and the Triumph SCI support groups, he found the strength to push forward. Today, Waley is a Computer Information Systems major at California State University, Los Angeles, focused on building a future for himself.<\/p>\n

Gaining Independence with Triumph<\/strong><\/p>\n

Determined to gain more independence, Waley applied for the Keep Moving Forward Grant to install hand controls in his vehicle. Living on a limited budget, this grant allowed him to drive, freeing him from public transportation and easing the burden on his family. Since receiving the grant, Waley has experienced renewed confidence, independence, and the ability to commute to school.<\/p>\n

Waley expresses deep gratitude to Triumph Foundation, whose support has empowered him to reclaim his life and work toward his IT career.<\/p>\n
