Eric’s Journey – Keep Moving Forward Grant Recipient
November 10, 2024 News, Noteworthy, SCIEric's Journey to Triumph
In 2023, Eric faced a life-altering event. While riding his motorcycle to meet a friend, an SUV abruptly turned left in front of him, leading to a catastrophic collision. The accident resulted in a shattered T6 vertebra, a fractured neck, and broken bones in both his hands. Emergency surgery was performed to repair his spine, but post-surgery, Eric had no sensation from his chest down.
A Glimmer of Hope
After two weeks, Eric began to regain feeling and movement in his lower extremities. With determination and the unwavering support of his family, he slowly started to reclaim mobility. Following two months in the hospital and inpatient therapy, he returned home, still facing significant physical and pain challenges. Today, Eric walks with the aid of a cane.
Exercise is Medicine
Eric struggled to find effective physical therapy until he discovered CORE (Center of Restorative Exercise). Despite the high costs not covered by insurance, his family supported his enrollment in this transformative program. Attending therapy three times a week has been a game changer, significantly aiding his recovery.
Triumph Foundation's Support
To alleviate the financial burden on his family, Eric applied for and received a grant from the Triumph Foundation to continue his treatment. With this grant Eric's physical therapy has played a pivotal role in his progress.
Looking Forward
With continued assistance, Eric aims to fully recover and rejoin the workforce. He stays active with his dog and maintains his progress, determined to overcome the challenges he faces.
