Events Calendar Fall 2019

The season is changing to autumn and many people are sad to see the summer come to a close. But don't be distressed, there are still lots of fun activities coming up for wheelchair users this fall.

Check out the Events Calendar below for all the exciting things going on in Southern California in the next few months.

Handcycle & Kayak Clinic

Calling all Veterans! We need you!!

Saturday October 12, 2019 from 1PM- 5PM is our Valley Go! Adapted Sports Program with Cal State Northridge is bringing handcycling and kayaking to you!

We will set up a base camp and have our "stable" of handcycles for people to try riding. We will also have aquatic staff helping people kayak and canoe.

We will be showing everyone the basics of the sports. No experience necessary. Water & snacks will be provided.

 Long Beach VA Adaptive Sports Expo

Thursday October 10, 2019 is the start of the Long Beach VA Adaptive Sports Expo. For the first time they're hosting activities at the Marina. Including, kayaking, rowing, paddle boarding, and cycling.

Then Friday October 11, 2019 the Long Beach VA Adaptive Sports Expo will be at the Long Beach VA offering; wheelchair basketball, tennis, wheelchair soccer, rockwall, cycling, and wheelchair rugby! To sign up email [email protected] or [email protected]

Over-the-Line Wheelchair Baseball Tournament

Saturday October 19, 2019 Triumph Foundation is holding our Over-the-Line Wheelchair Baseball Tournament at the Barry A. Sanders Sports Field at Lake Balboa in Van Nuys, CA.

Over-the-Line is a modified baseball game, check out this video to see how it's played!

No equipment or experience necessary. Play in your own wheelchair.

Triumph Return to Work Award

Triumph Foundation's Employment Achievement Award provides people with SCI financial assistance to achieve more success with current employer, for a license/product/equipment that will enable work, start a business, and/or increase their workplace success.

The goal is to help people become productive members of the community after a paralyzing accident.

The deadline to apply is October 27th.

Pasadena Adaptive Sports Festival

Save the Date: Triumph's 2nd Annual Pasadena Adaptive Sports Festival is Saturday November 9, 2019.

Featuring handcycling, rugby, pickle ball, tennis, beep baseball, boccia, dance, art, resource fair and more!

All inclusive, coaching, instruction, and equipment provided.

Casa Colina's Outdoor Adventures

Our friends at Casa Colina Rehabilitation Center are always doing exciting and fun events through their Outdoor Adventures program.

Here are a few highlights of activities coming up:

Therapeutic Horseback Riding - October 4th & 18th, November 1st & 22nd, and December 4th and 11th. Enjoy and relax while riding a horse and developing muscle tone, coordination, and confidence.

Kayaking - October 2nd. Experience the joy of kayaking in safe and sturdy sea kayaks. Paddle on the calm waters of Alamitos Bay in Long Beach.

Surfing - Surf’s up! - October 8th. Team up with premier surf shop ZJ Boarding House of Santa Monica, along with their top instructors, for a thrilling day of surfing.

Adaptive Scuba Clinic - October 26th. Casa Colina is teaming up with DiveHeart to teach scuba diving and snorkeling techniques in the comfort of a heated indoor pool at Casa Colina Hospital.

Adaptive Indoor Rockwall Climbing - October 23rd, November 13th, December 18th. Reach new heights by joining us for indoor rockwall climbing at the Stronghold Climbing Gym. No climbing experience is required!

Palm Spring Aerial Tramway - October 29th. Spend the day in Palm Springs and experience beautiful views while riding the aerial tramway and hiking through Mt. San Jacinto State Park.

Adaptive Paddle Boarding

Check out this monthly adaptive paddle boarding, kayak and social meet up. Whether you're new to water sports or a seasoned paddler.

Meet Pushing 4 Independence at the Newport Aquatic Center in Newport Beach every FIRST WEDNESDAY of the month from 9am-12pm for some fun on the water.

UCLA Basketball Clinics

UCLA Adapted Recreation holds an open wheelchair basketball clinic every Tuesday from 4pm - 7:30pm at the John Wooden Center.

RAMP Handcycling

Recreation Access Motivating People (RAMP) Handcycling conducts FREE hand cycling clinics in the Huntington Beach area on the 2nd Saturday of each month from 10:00am - 1:00pm.

They have a variety of handcycles and adaptive cycles for you to use.  Cyclists of all abilities are welcome to join.

Challenged Athletes Foundation Grant

The 2020 CAF Grant application is officially open! Their mission is to serve people with physical disabilities through sport and fitness with meaningful grants

The CAF grants assist with travel & competition expenses, coaching & training expenses, and adaptive sports equipment.

Angel City Sports

Angel City offers a year-round schedule of introductory adaptive sport clinics, giving athletes opportunities to participate, learn and train in a variety of sports.

Wheelchair Basketball Clinic - October 13th. Angel City teamed up with DK3 hoops for a Wheelchair Basketball Clinic! Join them on the famous Venice Beach Courts! To sign up CLICK HERE

Adaptive Golf - October 17th. Bill Davis and team are holding an adapive golf clinic from 10:30-12:00 PM at Westchester Golf Course.

SoCal WCMX

Join SoCal WCMX at their skate sesh clinics at Fontana Skatepark South located at 106581 Filbert St Fontana CA 92335.

Watch guys drop into the BIGGEST bowls and others learn how to do a wheelie. Everyone can learn to ride their wheelchair.

Each by Name - Women's Conference

4th Annual Each By Name, Women of all abilities conference is on November 16, 2019 in La Mesa San Diego.

Workshop guest speakers include; Interpersonal Communications, Mental Health, Financial Development, and Career Training.

Adaptive sports clinics include; adaptive sports, adaptive art, and inclusive dance.

Ability Festival

8th Annual Ability Festival is December 14, 2019 at Palm Desert Civic Center Plaza.

This a free event full of adaptive sports and recreation for all ages and all levels of disabilities.

Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra (DSES)

DSES summer programs continue into the Fall at Mammoth Mountain. Programs include kayaking, rock climbing, camping, hiking, cycling/mountain bike rides, and horseback riding. All activities are scheduled individually and are specific to personal interests and capabilities.

Every week there are opportunities to play wheelchair sports. Here are some highlights.

Rugby

Northridge Knights team practices on Sunday from 11am-3pm at Lake View Terrace Gym located at 11075 Foothill Blvd. Lake View Terrace, CA 91321. For more info email us.

Sharp Quad Rugby practices every Sunday in Oceanside, CA. To learn more call the Recreation Therapy Department at (858) 939-3048.

High Fives' Storm Quad Rugby practices in Bay Area and Reno, NV. To learn more contact Debra.

Nor-Cal Quake Quad Rugby practices in Santa Clara. To learn more contact Steven.

Basketball

HotWheelz Basketball Team practices Tuesday & Sunday at 2:30pm at Lake Terrace Gymnasium in Los Angeles. Contact Alex

Tennis

Biola University in La Mirada hosts open play Wheelchair Tennis practice on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 - 9pm. For more info contact Dee Henry

Long Beach Wounded Warrior Tennis clinics hosted at the VA Long Beach Healthcare Center in Long Beach. For clinic dates contact Steve.

Wheelchair Dancing

Wheelchair Dancers Organization offers free adaptive dance classes. They always welcome new dancers! Class dates and times vary, located at 4584 Calle De Vida, San Diega, CA 92124.

Life Series Groups

Triumph leads Life Series Groups that meet all around Southern California.

Each group is different and has its own personality. In addition to providing group support, many of them also do fun activities like go-kart racing, bowling, billiards, watch movies, eat at restaurants, feature live music, and have guest speakers and conversation topics.

If you'd like to be on one of the Life Series Groups email invite list, please let us know where you live, which group you are interested in, and any topics you'd like us to discuss.
