From Strikes to Slam Dunks: James’ Triumph Journey
December 27, 2024 News, SCI, YouTubeAt Triumph Foundation, every story of resilience and determination inspires us to continue building a stronger community. James, one of our newest members, embodies that spirit perfectly.
After sustaining a spinal cord injury, James faced many challenges, from adjusting to life in a wheelchair to rediscovering his independence. Like many others, he initially felt uncertain about how to move forward and regain the joy of participating in activities he once loved.
During one of our recent Palmdale SCI Group Meetings, James shared his desire to become more active and try new experiences. At our next community meet-up, we made that happen—we went bowling! Watching James' face light up as he rolled his first strike reminded us all why we do what we do.
“Bowling was so much fun,” James shared. “I didn’t think I’d be able to do something like this, but Triumph made it possible. It feels amazing to be out and part of a group that understands and supports me.”
After the bowling outing, we provided James with a loaner wheelchair, realizing we had a better-fitting option for him.
Inspired by his newfound confidence, James is already looking ahead to his next adventure. He’s eager to participate in our adaptive sports programs and is especially excited to try wheelchair basketball.
James’ story is a testament to the power of community, encouragement, and opportunity. By attending support groups and engaging in activities, he’s not just adjusting to life after his injury—he’s thriving.
