A Ramp to Rejoin the World: Charles’ First Taste of Freedom

For months, Charles watched the world through a window. After a motorcycle accident left him with a fractured C1 vertebrae and a recent surgery took away his ability to walk, his home became a place of confinement.

“I feel like a prisoner stuck in my house,” he shared. “Some fresh air would really do wonders for my life.”

Charles had the determination to keep going - attending physical therapy twice a week, fighting to stay active - but without a ramp, even getting out the front door was impossible. What he needed was simple: a safe way to roll outside, to rejoin his community, to feel human again.

Now he has what he needs because this community, the one that shows up for people when they need it most, came through for Charles.

Through the Keep Moving Forward Grant, he received a ramp that will allow him to leave his house safely and independently. For him, that means a breath of fresh air, a break from isolation, and a return to the simple joys of life outside.

Every ramp installed, every grant awarded, every life made better – it all happens because people like you believe in lifting others up.
