For our last Motivational Monday of Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month, we’re shining a light on Derek's  journey—a powerful example of how your generosity fuels independence, dignity, and connection. His triumph is proof that together, we can keep moving forward.

Derek knows what it means to fight for independence. As a C4 quadriplegic, every movement counts—and so does every opportunity to grow stronger. While he currently uses a power wheelchair, Derek longed for the freedom and confidence he felt in his manual chair. The problem? Without assistance, pushing it in public was nearly impossible. 

He dreamed of using his manual wheelchair not just at home, but out in the world—on his terms. What stood in the way were the physical limitations that made extended use painful and unsustainable. 

Thanks to your support of Triumph’s Keep Moving Forward Grant program, Derek now has power assist wheels that make his manual wheelchair more functional in everyday life. These wheels are a bridge to greater independence, strength, and mental empowerment. 

Because of you, Derek can show up in the world with confidence, work on his physical goals, and feel more at home in his body.
