This week, we’re proud to highlight one of our Triumph Foundation grant recipients whose journey shows how challenges can become stepping stones when surrounded by the right support and community.

Driven by Determination: Shayna’s Triumph Forward

In 2017, Shayna’s life took a dramatic turn when she was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome, leaving her paralyzed and facing a long road to recovery. Years of rehab and persistence brought her back to walking with a cane, but lasting nerve damage and ongoing symptoms like nerve pain and weakness still affect her mobility and endurance.

Despite it all, Shayna never slowed down. She recently completed her bachelor’s degree with a 4.0 GPA, is now pursuing her master’s at USC, and dreams of a career in neurorehabilitation. But without the ability to drive safely, she faced a major barrier to reaching her next milestone.

Thanks to the support of the Triumph Family, Shayna received a Keep Moving Forward Grant to help pay for adaptive hand controls, removing a critical obstacle between her and the independence she’s worked so hard to reclaim. With this adaptive equipment, she’s now on the road toward employment, academic achievement, and lifelong impact in her community.
