Celebrating Access, Advocacy, and Community

This year’s Adaptive Sports Festival was amazing!  A highlight was the presentation of the Robert Gorski Access Award that honors individuals who make a lasting impact on accessibility, inclusion, and quality of life for people with disabilities, continuing the work of Pasadena advocate Robert Gorski.

This year the award was presented to Emily Suñez, a dedicated disability advocate, teacher, and artist. Emily has used her personal experiences living with a disability and professional expertise to create meaningful change in the community. She founded the Pasadena POTS support group and co-founded the Los Angeles Dysautonomia Network (LADN), providing education, events, and grants to support people living with dysautonomia and related conditions. Through her leadership and advocacy, Emily has inspired countless individuals and strengthened opportunities for empowerment.

Andrew Skinner was also honored with the Robert Gorski Access Award for his work expanding adaptive sports programs, helping people with disabilities stay active, engaged, and connected. In 2015, Andrew also had the opportunity to work with Robert Gorski on the 25th year ADA celebration.

Celebrating Emily, Andrew, and the legacy of Robert Gorski at the Adaptive Sports Festival reminded everyone of the power of community, access, and opportunity for all.
