Stephanie’s Journey: Hope and Independence

Andrew Skinner February 17, 2025 News, Noteworthy, SCI

Triumph Foundation is dedicated to empowering individuals living with paralysis by offering the resources and support necessary to lead functional, fulfilling, and independent lives. Through our Keep Moving Forward (KMF) Grant Program, we strive to close the gap between need and accessibility.

A Story of Triumph: Stephanie’s Journey

Stephanie’s life changed dramatically in September 2023, when what began as back pain led to a spinal cord injury that left her paralyzed. Within 12 hours of walking into the emergency room, paralysis set in. After an MRI revealed a spinal abscess at the T5 level caused by an infection. Unfortunately, this resulted in a complete injury with a prognosis that she may not walk again.

Once an active single mother who enjoyed hikes, outdoor activities, and caring for her family, she now faces the hurdles of navigating her new reality. Providing for her children financially, homeschooling her youngest daughter, and managing daily life has become overwhelming.

With help from YOU, Stephanie received a wheelchair lift for her home and a transfer chair to assist with daily tasks. These items have been life-changing, allowing her to regain some independence and ease the strain on her and her daughters as they adapt to their new normal.
