Defying the Odds: Abdul’s Inspiring Journey from Bedridden to Adaptive Sports

Andrew Skinner November 28, 2024 News, SCI, YouTube

Meet Abdul, a 24-year-old with an incredible story of resilience and determination. After a motorcycle accident in India left him with a C4 complete spinal cord injury, Abdul spent seven years confined to bed, told by doctors he'd never be able to feed or dress himself. But his life took a turn when he was brought to the U.S. and began rehabilitation at Rancho Los Amigos, where he defied the odds and learned to feed and dress himself.

Abdul’s spirit is truly inspiring—he’s always pushing his limits and committed to his goals. Discharged with a power chair but lacking an adaptive van, he made it to rugby practice on public transport, setting his sights on using a manual wheelchair. With some support, we helped him access resources and secure a loaner chair, even coordinating transportation to the shop when his family couldn’t bring him.

Abdul’s journey is a testament to the power of persistence and support. Watch his story and see how he continues to redefine what’s possible!

Keep the momentum going— save the date for Giving Tuesday on December 3rd as we continue to share stories of resilience.
