A Detour, Not a Roadblock – Tim’s Momentum Story

"I'm looking forward to getting back into the community so much!"

Want to see what momentum looks like? Keep reading and be inspired by Tim's story of resilience and recovery.

One April morning, Tim set out on one of his favorite bicycle rides through Topanga Canyon. A detour led him to a new route. But this adventure took an unexpected turn, ending in a crash that left Tim with a devastating spinal cord injury.

When we met Tim at Northridge Hospital in May, he greeted us with a courageous smile—a glimmer of hope in a sea of uncertainty. Like many, he was navigating the pain, anger, and isolation that often come with a paralysis diagnosis. Tim, who lives alone, feared he would face this journey by himself.

But the Triumph Family had other plans.

We provided empathy, support, and resources to guide Tim through this new chapter. Anticipating his needs upon discharge, we built a ramp for his home, provided a power wheelchair, and welcomed him into a community that would help him move forward both physically and emotionally.

Today, Tim is an active member of the Triumph Family. He participates in adaptive recreation, inspires others, and recently achieved a milestone we’re all celebrating: walking across the finish line of our Superheroes Triumph 5K on his own two feet!

Tim’s life took a detour, but it wasn’t a roadblock. With resilience, courage, and the Triumph Family by his side, he’s charting a new course—and proving that his momentum is unstoppable.
