Education

Their mission is to provide students with physical disabilities and health conditions and their families with supports to ensure a successful transition to and through higher education.
Supports college scholarships for athletes who participated in organized competitive youth, high school or collegiate athletics and subsequently have sustained a life changing accident or illness (e.g. paralysis, blindness, cancer, amputation, head injuries). Scholarship recipients will meet the admissions standards at a four year or graduate level institution of higher learning. Following matriculation at the institution, the scholarship recipient shall maintain satisfactory progress towards their degree program and maintain a minimum grade point average of no less than 2.5 cumulative and the minimum required by their department to be considered “in good academic standing”. Recipients will provide a copy of their cumulative transcript as well as a letter requesting renewal of their scholarship at the end of each academic year in order to receive aid in subsequent years.

180 Medical is honored to have a scholarship program to help those with spinal cord injuries, spina bifida, transverse myelitis, and/or a neurogenic bladder. Realizing the financial burdens that exist for many of these families, we’ve developed the 180 Medical Scholarship Program to honor these young adults who pursue goals of higher education. The AAHD Frederick J. Krause Scholarship Health and Disability is awarded annually to a deserving student with a disability who is pursuing undergraduate/graduate studies (must be at least enrolled as a Junior in college) in an accredited university who is pursuing studies related to the health and disability, to include, but not limited to public health, health promotion, disability studies, disability research, rehabilitation engineering, disability policy, special education and majors that will impact quality of life of persons with disabilities.

A $1000 to $2000 scholarship shall be awarded to two to three individuals with neurological disabilities, or the child of that person, for post high school education both spring and fall semester. Individuals suffering from a direct spinal cord injury or disease resulting in paralysis such as spinal tumors, strokes or aneurysms affecting the spinal cord, or spina bifida are given first priority. Other diseases and disorders that would be considered include MS, traumatic brain injuries, Parkinson’s and cerebral palsy. Conditions such as ADHD or dyslexia do not qualify. Priority is also given to people living in Wisconsin, but scholarships still may be given out to individuals residing in the United States depending on the funds available.
